The Feminist

The Feminist

I have never really thought about where I stand. Lately I have begun following more and more feminist blogs which eventually lead me to GrimmRicksen and she has these great buttons. I really want to post the button on my blog, but I figured before I do I should make sure what the message means and that it truly is something I believe in.

I'll started with LiberalA Liberal is open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values. "they have more liberal views toward marriage and divorce than some people”

Then I sent Kevin this text message “So a Liberal – means someone open to new behaviors or opinions and willing to discard traditional values… Does that mean I’m a liberal? He responded with “By the actual definition of liberal, yes. By the actual political party, less so.” (Side note: I am talking Canadian Politics)

While I have been able to vote for almost ten years now (OMG) I have never taken the opportunity to do so. I also choose to not complain about politics, though sometimes I defend certain politicians I like (just the mayor of the city I live in, I like how social media aware he is). That however is not the topic of discussion, if you take politics out of the Liberal perspective, I would say I am a Liberal (the political side of things to be figure out at a later date).

Next up is Pro-Choice I have always struggled with the definitions of the words of pro-choice and pro-life (I struggle with definitions in general). To me they mean the same thing, but the reality of it is they are not even close to be the same thing. Pro-choice is the position which advocates the existence of a woman's right to choose whether or not to have an abortion. Pro-choice can also be a position of support of a person's right to choose whether or not to end his or her life by euthanasia or assisted suicide  and other social ethic issues concerned with ones personal autonomy. The term is most often used to emphasize a position of bodily integrity, individual sovereignty and self-determination, particularly on issues of public policy, law, political controversies and medical ethics I am definitely on board with Pro-choice, but let’s take a look at pro-life. Pro-life are movements which advocate against the legalization of euthanasia or the practice of abortion WOW. Seeing the actual terms put side by side. I am most definitely Pro-Choice and I will never confuse the two again. Pro-life is horrific. (I got Kevin to proof read this and I did still manage to mix Pro-Choice and Pro-Life up... sigh)

Pro-gay marriage No research needed. Love who you wish. Love is not something easily found these days. Divorce rates are ridiculous. So if you find someone you love – male, female, otherwise – love them with all you have and never let go.

Secular Growing up this word meant bad things. Secular denoting attitudes, activities, or other things that have no religious or spiritual basis I can understand why it meant bad things to me then. It meant I wasn’t following the path that was set before me. It meant I didn’t believe in the God the people around me believed in. It means my life goals and my thoughts didn’t and don’t align with the same people mentioned. Now that I understand myself better, there is less of an internal struggle. I am definitely not a Christian I do not believe in the Christian bible. But I am uncertain of the potential existence of a god. I am identifying as agnostic but leaning towards atheism. I haven’t taken the time to researched other religions.

Outspoken The more I learn, the more I discover I can’t keep it all in. Being out spoken is scary. I am very afraid of the reaction people may have when they discover I am for Gay Marriage, or Pro-Choice or Agnostic leaning towards Atheist. I don’t know how those people will respond. And this is my internal struggle I am afraid of no response – did they read it?? Are they talking about it behind my back? Do they care? Do they not want to understand my point of view? I am also afraid of a response – what if I don’t articulate myself properly? What if they don’t care why I have chosen this path but only try to convince me otherwise? Staying silent though is starting to not be an option anymore. The more I learn, the more I read, the more I can’t keep my mouth shut.

Which leads me to FeministFeminists are people who believe in (with some campaigning for) the equality of womenFeminism wiki is a very interesting read as well

As a Feminist I cannot stay silent and watch the world do crazy things to people I love.

I'm a lifestyle blogger, covering deep subjects including body images, battles with food, and overcoming how I was raised. I try to be as authentic as possible and I don’t sugar coat how I see things.
