The Search for Understanding - Week 9

Genesis 12

Verse 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. If all mankind is made from God why would he curse those that curse Abram?

It is confusing to me why Abram thought it would be a good idea for Sarai to pretend to be his sister. Did Pharaoh actually sleep with her? Why would God punish someone else for the lie and not the people who concocted the lie? God’s punishments are extremely unfair.

Genesis 13

Wait, did Abram keep all the dowry he got from Pharaoh?? Was that the point of the lie, so Abram could become rich (verse 2). How did Lot get rich?

Abram and Lot separate and Lot dwells in the land close to Sodom. I wonder if we are getting to close to the part where Lot’s wife turned into salt and his daughters rape him. That however is moving past this chapter. What I would like to know is why was Sodom evil, is this where the word Sodomite comes from. While not my thing, what the hell is wrong with anal sex.

I wonder if God’s promise to Abram was ever fulfilled? According to my bible notes Acts 7:5 and Hebrews 11:13 says it was not. Also this land is in the Middle East and has been the cause of many wars. Wars are stupid.

Genesis 14

Just a list of questions for this chapter.

There’s an actual thing called a Slimepit - verse 10? Lot was kidnapped - verse 12? When did Abram become Abram the Hebrew?

Abram had 318 slaves. The insanity of that is if you believe the Noah story, then there could have been a time were slavery was abolished and done so easily. Instead you still have slavery because Noah has a grudge (if you can’t tell that is something that really riles me!)

So here we have in verse 23 and 24 Abram saying he will not take a reward for rescuing everyone. But Abram lied to Pharaoh to get a dowry for Sarai and then took her back. Feels messed up!
