House Tour - Building The Office
The last time we had a second bedroom, I turned it into my closet. It was filled with my clothes, makeup and books. I loved every second of that room and hated giving it up. But I did and I lived without it for 4 years. It made me reprioritized a lot of my clothes and things I owed so that I could fit everything into our 750 square foot apartment. NOW we have a second bedroom again and a second bathroom! I debated heavily about turning it into another closet but in the end I really wanted an office space. A place were I could work 9-5 and then when Kevin came home, we could shut the door and enjoy each other. A space were work was done and not mixed with our time together. Blogging is a full-time gig and sometimes it's hard to turn off. Having a dedicated space for it, separate from the rest of the house helps turn it off!
One of the first things we bought were desks. One for each of us. I had a blast putting them together and rearranging the room until it suited me. As you can tell in the background of these photos my books and our games are in boxes stacked against the wall. It was a temp solution to the problem and while it worked, the boxes were slowly breaking down and not holding under the weight.
After desks came the filing cabinet. I wanted to put this together by myself but the instructions say, it would take two people and I am so happy I waited for Kevin.
Then it became a waiting came. A waiting game of patience for buying the rest of the furniture. Our Christmas present was bookshelves, though they weren't ordered until January. The original idea was one bookshelf for books and one for games. But then my books kinda just took over! Kevin gets a whole 2 shelves to himself.
With the furniture done, the only thing left was to add the little details. If you saw this instagram post, you know how excited I was about finally getting frames for some art we've had lying around for years. Getting those framed was huge for me. I really want my house to look complete and proper art helps.
Here is my view everyday while working. Sometimes I have glorious sunshine. Other days I have fog. Either way, the office is bright and cozy. The only thing missing is office chairs. Right now I am using my reading chair and Kevin has a kitchen chair. These are only temporary solutions, but I am being super picky and neither of us are agreeing with the type of chair design. So we will work with what we got until I figure it out!
My desk doesn't always look like this. But when I am building a blog post and having trouble with ideas, it gets broken down into sticky notes. Let side is all the sticky notes I had collected for Mondays post. Right side is broken-down into to-do lists, recipes, collaboration notes, etc.
Now if you have a moment, I have questions!
What would you do for a desk chair, that's functional and fits with the design of the space?
Do you think a blue rug would be too much?
How do you organize your books?
