I threw out 90% of my makeup.
It was all two or more years old. My foundation was drying and goopy, the concealer was rock solid and it was taking up space. I washed all my brushes, let them dry and put them away. I took a step back and looked at all the things I owned and choose to keep that, that made me happy.
Then I did the next best thing, I went shopping. Shopping for the things that I wanted, not the things I am told I should have. Foundation feels like cake and a burden so I didn't buy it. Concealer just makes me feel bad for hiding the truth on my face. But lipstick, lipstick brings me joy. If you buy the right kind it feels light and airy on the lips. Highlights my naturalness and makes me smile every time I catch my reflection.
Up until recently my favorite lipsticks have been Kat Von D's liquid everylasting liquid lipstick. But the price tag just makes me cringe. So I decided to branch out and order online, untried and take a chance. I choose to pick up ColorPops Moment of Weekness.
Obviously my face says it all. These make me happy! There's colors I love and would have picked myself and there's colors that are bold and scary. It pushes my boundaries and I had a lot of fun taking pictures and playing with the 7 colors!
Sunday: Ultra Matte Lip; soft terracotta
Monday: Ultra Matte Lip; warm peachy beige
Tuesday: Ultra Matte Lip; bright coral red (pictured below, top left)
Wednesday: Ultra Matte Lip; vibrant hot pink (pictured below, top right)
Thursday: Ultra Matte Lip; brilliant red violet (pictured below, bottom left)
Friday: Ultra Matte Lip; true black (pictured below, bottom right)
Saturday: Ultra Matte Lip; saturated blackberry
Now just because foundation and concealer are things I don't enjoy anymore, like doesn't mean you shouldn't. It also doesn't mean I won't enjoy those things again. Right now my life is set up to be yoga and blogging. It feels like to much effort to put more on than just lips and mascara. That could change one day.
Make up should be what we choose it, something that makes us happy and something that brings us joy. Not a requirement.
These colors made me so happy and I had a blast playing with them and trying to get the shoots I wanted. Tell me something that's made you happy this week?
