My Birthday and 2018 Accomplishments

My Birthday and 2018 Accomplishments

Today at some point I was born 32 years ago and I really like where I am in life and am so excited for the future. This past year has been pretty fantastic and I feel accomplished in so many ways. So I wanted to highlight some of that, because sometimes I get stuck in my own head so much that I forget about the things I have done.

What I Accomplished in 2018

Projects

365 Photo A Day Project - success! I am going to be printing this into a little book! The project overall was a little of fun and something I want to continue. I enjoy seeing little aspects of my days.

1 Second a Day Video - you’ll be able to see it on Week 1 of the 365 day project. Today is the last day and it’s gonna take a few days to edit it all together. After doing the photo a day I am unsure if I want to continue doing the video. It’s not my favorite format, but it’s also something I enjoy seeing when it’s all put together.

Financial

Debt Percentage - not as great as it should have been. November and December were heavy spending months due to travel. I think we should have one student loan paid off come February so that will make a huge difference to these numbers. Right now we have money sitting there waiting for it to accumulate enough to do the pay off. When that happens it will mean only one student loan left! It’s odd not to immediately apply it but it makes so little difference to the interest that waiting to do it all at once is easier.

We did two trips this year - Vegas and Canada to see family. Expensive and totally worth it. You can read about Vegas here and Canada details will follow sometime in January. Because of the travel and a few unexpected expenses (aka Kevin’s phone dying far too soon) our savings was almost completely wiped out. A little nerve-wrecking but it is nothing like years ago when Kevin was in school. It sucked but we’re good. That said it was enough to help curb our overspending. Something we are definitely going to be working on in the new year. On that note, we have reworked our budget a fair bit, it gives us back spending money which we had stopped doing when we moved to Wisconsin. We are both curious how this will affect what we do in the coming year.

One a weirder note though, this blog has started earning money. It’s not big but it’s something that came unexpectedly. I don’t know how long it will last but it’s encouraging to know it’s a possibility.

Health

Physical Movement

Working out really changed this year. It became more about moving my body because I enjoy movement and less about working out because I need to look a certain way. It started with discovering a favorite yoga teacher was into something not yoga. Then gathering the courage to talk to her and find out what she was teaching exactly. That lead me to Aerial Yoga in early February. I fell in love with what aerial had to offer and began to search it out more. In September we joined a gym, so I could work on my strength (weights) and endurance (cardio). But the best part was the beginning of circus classes; silks, sling, and lyra (see days 274, 276, 299, 339, and the pictures below, which are some of my favorites). From September to the end of the year three times a week. Wrapping your head around movement in this way is not easy but flying is the best! Suffice to say, I love it and suggest you find a local class to try!

My mind space

It’s an up or down journey with my mental health and while I haven’t felt the need to seek out therapy again, I know that in the new year I will. Oddly enough we’ve noticed a few interesting habits regarding my spirals into depression and it’s going to be interesting challenging those habits as I work on prevention.

To end 2018 has been a great year. I am happy to be celebrating my birthday this year with family. It’s loud just like last year but in a total different way. Fill me in on your year below in the comments!

I'm a lifestyle blogger, covering deep subjects including body images, battles with food, and overcoming how I was raised. I try to be as authentic as possible and I don’t sugar coat how I see things.
