Review: Ashen Winter
We continue off right where we left off in the first book. Which is always my favorite way of starting a sequel! The good part is that Mike Mullin answer all the questions and ended book one on a good note, but it was great to see the characters again. The only disappointing part would be there was not enough of Darla. I very much wish there had been more of her.
I would have really like to have seen a picture of the contraption that Darla and Alex ride for the first part of the book.
I really liked the other two supporting characters in this book especially Ben. In their reality it would be interesting how children like Ben would survive. I like that he is so smart and comes up with the most interesting plans that work. The Principle in the book was a very interesting twist. I love how she named her husband the Prefect like in Harry Potter.
The one thing I am curious about with this book is the rest of the world. Yellowstone supervolcano would not hurt the entire world, so why aren’t they coming in to help. Why are there refugee camps that bad? There should be no reason for cannibalism to even become a factor when the rest of the world is untouched. It’s a side note casually mentioned once. Which kinda irritated me this round.
