Book Reviews

Sea of Shadows by Kelley Armstrong - Link

I grabbed this book on the recommendation of a friend. It was worth the read. I read it quick, the story progressed fast. I liked the characters. What I liked the most was that it was two groups of two, then they became four and then a group of 2. But they are always together and working towards a similar goal. A Team. There's no "one chosen".

Stories like this and The Golden Compass make me want a pet though. I love how the girls each have a creature of different meaning and uniqueness and I totally want a pet! One day!

Empire of Night by Kelley Armstrong - Link

Oh dear books, how I hate thee!!

Seriously from one good series to a mediocre one to good again. Only to have it end in a cliffhanger and the next book not yet released!

Have I mentioned the beautiful covers? The glorious tale of two girls, with mixed male companions. How I hope Gavril wins and Ronan finds courage. How I'm sad that Guin is no longer and that I love the name Daigo.

It's a sad sad day when a good book ends.

The Alchemyst Book 1 The Secrets of The Immortal Nicholas Flamel by Michael Scott - Link

Twins, prophecies, elders, magic, alchemy, 5 elements and rotten eggs with mint. The basic words for describing this book. I saw it in the library and grabbed the whole series. It's 6 books and while it goes slow then speeds up and then slows down. It's an interesting tale. Even if some of the things written are a little weird.

Like I just got use to the concept that creationism isn't a thing, evolution is more accurate. And before I came to that conclusion books that state things about how people and dinosaurs coexisted and blah blah blah, I would have just dismissed it. But now, it really infuriates me that the author is twisting tales. But that is the purpose of writing isn't it? Making things our own realities.

And with that I'm off to read book 2.

The Magician Book 2 The Secrets of The Immortal Nicholas Flamel by Michael Scott - Link

The thing you expected from book one happens in this book. In the catacombs of Paris, a place I hope to one day visit.

The twins stop communicating in this book as well. Because of Josh's jealous that his sister has changed and her sudden power. But in the end they become one. But not in the creepy way, thankfully.

Character I enjoyed the most in this book is Machiavelli. I want to know which side he chooses. I also would love to know the story of The Witch of Endor and Mars. That would be most interesting. What would have happened if Sophie had done what he asked and will that come up again.

The Sorceress Book 3 The Secrets of The Immortal Nicholas Flamel by Michael Scott - Link

Each book has a horror, the first was ten thousands crows swarming and attacking. Book two was rats and their beady little eyes. And this book was spiders, spiders everywhere inching around from the tiniest you can barely see it there to as big is that one described in Harry Potter, though this book did come first. I am undecided how I feel about this book. Josh gets his wish and becomes the expected arrogant son of a bitch, who's only thought is to protect his sister and Sophie is still kind and weeps for old men. I am glad Perenelle will be joining the group I am tired of the Alchemist, though I wish Joan and Scatty were not 1.6 billion years in the past.

Movie Review India's Daughters - LinkIndias-Daughter

One of the main reasons I wanted to get Netflix was so I could watch documentaries. India's Daughters was the first one I've watched. The stats laid out at the end of the movie are horrific. The fact that the men have no remorse is even worse. It is a sad day when people don't recognize others value.

It's a painful show to watch. The fact is this happened in December 2012. That's three years ago. She was 23 years old. I was 25. We could have been friends.
